Former Iowa preps have started off the NAIA Indoor Championships in fine fashion.  The meet, being held at Spir

e Institute in Geneva, Ohio, started February 28 and will be completed tomorrow (Saturday) evening.

Thursday the 28th did have a few finals but most of the first day was preliminaries.

Native Iowans involved in finals were:

  • Larissa Wilden, Mt. Mercy/Clinton-Pentathlon, 5th, 3209 points.  All American.
  • Andy Daugherty, Morningside/SC East-Heptathlon, 6th, 2645 points.  All American. 

Advancing from prelims to finals:

  • Men’s 4×800, Morningside, 7:37.46, (fastest qualifier).  Morningside is the defending NAIA Champion in this event and return the same 4 Iowans who ran in 2012: Jay Welp, BCLUW, Taylor Chapman, Spencer, John Harris, Galva-Holstein, Monte Larsen, Tri Center-Neola.
  • Northwestern, 7:44.38 (qualifies # 7).  Taylor Bodin, Kyle Anderson, Unity Christian, Logan Hovland, North Iowa, Skyler Giddings, Pella Christian.
  • Women’s 4×800, Morningside, 9:17.56 (qualifies # 2).  McKenzie Reece, Forest City, Jennifer Petsche, West Monona, Hailee Heitkamp, Breanna Mathes, Galva-Holstein.
  • Men’s 4×400, Grand View, 3:15.16, School Record, (qualifies # 4).  Wes Hammer, Tre Porter, Alex Alvarez, Zach Vos, Pella Christian.
