Taylor Scholl (Prior Lake, Minn.) led a select group of the Drake women’s track and field team Saturday at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational hosted by Nebraska University at the Bob Devaney Sports Complex.

Scholl’s time of 5:09.32 was good enough for a fifth-place finish in the mile. The freshman was the top finisher of five Bulldogs in the event. Sophomore Melissa Parks (Norfolk, Neb.), 5:20.84, and freshman Emma Huston, Des Moines, Roosevelt, 5:21.20, finished 14th and 15, respectively. Freshman Laura Gann (Wheaton, Ill.) claimed the 19th best time in 5:40.22 and senior Cammy Dole Anamosa, was 21st in 5:55.36.

Whitney Westrum, Waukee, was sixth in the 400-meter final. The senior ran a personal best time of 56.10 in the finals, bettering her previous personal best in the event set the night before in the preliminary heats.

Fellow senior Marissa Smith (Ajax, Ontario) finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles final in a time of 8.51. Teammate senior Sarah Yeager, Cardinal of Eldon, was edged for a top-three finish in the 60-meter hurdle consolation final. Yeager tied Lorraine Graham of Florida in 8.57 but was edged by the Gator’s time of 8.562 to her 8.566.

The women’s squad will look to continue upon their successful 2013 campaign next weekend at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa
