The Iowa State Women came into the D-1 Championship meet ranked second in the country.  They may be a bit disappointed with their 11th place finish, but they are ecstatic with Betsy Saina’s individual title!  Saina ran 19:27.9 to edge runner-up Abby D’Agostino, Dartmouth by just over a second.  Meaghan Nelson, CR Xavier, was 16th in 20:01.7 to earn All American honors for the second consecutive year.

Iowa’s Marike Schrulle earned her first All American distinction with a 7th place finish.

Amanda Mergaert, Utah was 14th in 19:57.7   Mergaert is coached by former Webster City prep and UNI XC Coach Kyle Kepler.

Shelby Houlihan, SC East, Arizona State finished as an All American with her 31st placing in 20:11.4

The University of Washington finished 9th and Minnesota was 22nd.


In the D-1 Men’s race Arkansas was the only team with Iowa ties.  The Razorbacks, 10th, is coached by Chris Bucknam the long time UNI head coach.


In the D-2 Championships, held in Joplin, Missouri, Grand Valley State won the Women’s competition.

The Lakers scored only 104 points and were led by former Dubuque Wahlert standout, freshman Jessica Janecke’s 4th place finish in 20:23!

In the Men’s 10k competition, Augustana, South Dakota was 4th and Minnesota State Mankato finished 20th.


In the D-3 Women’s competition in Terre Haute, Indiana, Wartburg finished 2nd!  The Lady Knights were led by Alana Enabnit, Clear Lake, who finished 7th overall in 21:23 and fellow top ten finisher Sammi Bruett of Urbandale who ran the 6k in 21:30.

Luther finished 14th in the team race.  Grinnell’s Sarha Burnell, Grinnell, finished 48th in 22:15 and Lewis Clark of Portland, Oregon, with City High’s Emily Fagen running 24:24 for 264th overall finished 20th with 452 points.

In the D-3 Men’s 8k competition, Central finished 13th.  Eli Horton, SE Polk,led the Dutch with his 29th place finish, overall, in 25:02.  Cole Decker, Dowling Catholic, was 39th in 25:08.

Luther finished 24th in the team race and Grinnell’s Frankk Canady, IC West ran 25:39 for 94th.

In the NAIA meet at Vancouver, Washington, the Dordt women ran very well and finished 9th and St. Ambrose finished 21st.  Individual Iowa entries were: Anne Bruno, Andrew/Mt. Mercy 186th and Anne Hills, CR Prairie/Loyola, New Orleans, 244th.

On the Men’s side of the NAIA meet, Olivet Nazarene was 22nd.  Morningside finished 23rd and St. Ambrose 27th.

Iowa Individuals were: Etsalon Kabura, DM North/Graceland 67th.    Justin Welsh, SE Polk/Grand View 244th.  Bryant Rader, CR Washington/Mt. Mercy 252nd and Tyler Hartley, Wilton/Mt. Mercy 270th.
