NIACC Trojans Show Well at Nationals!

The NIACC men’s cross country team placed fifth at the NJCAA national meet Saturday, November 10, with 211 points.  Top-ranked Central Arizona won the meet with 51 points and No. 5 Spartansburg Methodist was second with 105 points.  NIACC was led by sophomore Trent Smith (Charles City), who was 12th in a time of 26 minutes, 39.4 seconds on the 8-kilometer course. Central Arizona’s Tod Jackson was the individual champion in 25:45.5.  Also for NIACC, sophomore Sapolai Yao (Papua New Guinea) was 22nd in 26:53.7, sophomore Jonny Worley (North Butler) was 26th in 26:59.0, sophomore OJ Ojullu (Worthington, Minn.) was 79th in 28:03.2 and freshman John-Ross Tangi (Brantford, Ontario) was 92nd in 28:17.6.

The NIACC women placed 24th with 658 points. Iowa Central won the team title with 40 points.  Freshman Rachael Moore (Clarion) led the Lady Trojans with a 75th place finish in 20:21.8 on the 5-kilometer course.  Also for NIACC, freshman Emily Scharn (Sac City) was 108th in 20:58.5, freshman Lindsay Brunson (Muscatine) was 115th in 21:04.6, freshman Stephanie Faught (Clear Lake) was 232nd in 23:01.2 and freshman Rebecca Baker (Clear Lake) was 241st in 23:12.0.
