Grinnell’s Burnell and Canady on to Nationals!

Men

Grinnell College’s Frank Canady, IC West, advanced to the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships after placing eighth at the Central Region Meet hosted by St. Olaf College Saturday.  Canady, competing in a 185-runner field, ran the 8-kilometer race in 25:49.1.  Erik Figge, was next in line for Grinnell, placing 35th in 26:30.3. Rounding out the Pioneer scorers were Kyle Moorehead, Grinnell, (68th in 27:17.0),Sam Krauth (69th in 27:18.3) and Ben Tyler (75th in 27:24.5).  Adam Dalton, Mason City Neweman, was 89th in 27:39.5 and Nate Kolacia, Ft. Dodge St. Edmond, placed 110th in 28:14.1. The Pioneers were 10th in the 27-team field with 255 points. St. Olaf was the champ with 70.  The individual champ was St. Olaf’s Grant Wintheimer, who finished in 25:20.9.

Women

Grinnell College’s Sarah Burnell, Grinnell, punched her ticket to the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships after placing 10th at the Central Region Meet hosted by St. Olaf College Saturday.  Burnell, competing in a 187-runner field, ran the 6-kilometer race in 22:37.6.  Next in line for Grinnell was Stephanie Rouse, who placed 19th in 23:10.7. Rounding out the Pioneers’ scoring group were Diana Seer (63rd in 24:23.4), Jesse McNealy (84th in 24:50.2) and Metzere Bierlein, Dowling Catholic, (99th in 25:07.1).  Cassidy White, West Branch, added a 108th-place finish in 25:18.4 and Paulina Campbell was 116th in 25:31.1.  Grinnell was eighth in the 28-team field with 275 points. The champ was Wartburg College with 72.  Linda Keller of Minnesota-Morris was the individual champ in 21:32.8.
