Jason in PR shape . . . but not at NYC Marathon

Des Moines – November 16, 2012

  • Jason Flogel has had a banner year – 2:21 at Olympic Trials Marathon, 24:38 PR at Chicago Shamrock 8k, 1:04:28 at Dam to Dam, 1:07:35 at Grandma’s USATF Half-Marathon and Capital Pursuit victory in the best time in 20 years.  Plus Jason was competitive on the track and numerous other Midwest races.  By his own admission he was ready for a marathon best . . . but Hurricane Sandy shut down New York City and eventually the NYC Marathon.
  • Casey McDermott won the Iowa State Fair 5k, 3rd overall in 17:31 (Des Moines, Nov. 4).
  • Ermin Sabljakovic won the 5 Sullivan Brothers in 17:27 (Waterloo, Nov. 3).
  • Christine Price won the RRC Run the Woods XC race, 8th overall in 30:37 (Earlham, Nov. 3)

Tim Ives, one of the founders of Runablaze Iowa and coach of Dowling Catholic boys team, repeated as 4A state cross country champion.  His team is hoping to advance to the Nike XC Nationals in December.
