UNI Harriers Honored!

The University of Northern Iowa cross country teams had three members named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team following the completion of the 2012 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championship last weekend in Normal, Ill, at the Weibring Golf Course..  Seniors Scotti Schon, Waukon and Allison Fick, Iowa City West were honored on the women’s side while senior Brett Egan was, Waukon tabbed on the men’s side.

  • Scholar-Athlete honors require athletes to meet performance standards, as they must finish among the first 20 runners at the conference championship and hold at least a cumulative 3.2 GPA and be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing to earn a spot on the MVC Scholar-Athlete team.
  • “I could not be more proud of our outstanding scholar-athletes,” said head coach Dan Steele.  “They set a terrific standard for all of our student-athletes.”
  • Brett Egan is a double-major in mathematics and education.  Egan currently carries a 3.91 cumulative grade-point-average.  The senior finished in 11th place at the MVC Championships with a time of 24:54 on the 8k course, shaving over a minute off of his time from the 2011 MVC Championships.
  • Scotti Schon is a double-major in communications and public relations.  Schon carries a 3.83 grade-point-average to go along with a ninth-place finish at the MVC Championships.  Schon finished the 5k course with a time of 17:55, cutting nearly two minutes off of her time from the 2011 MVC Championships.  Her efforts led to the eighth-fastest finish in program history.
  • Allison Fick is majoring in biology.  Fick has secured a 3.91 cumulative grade-point-average.  Fick finished the MVC Championships in 18:05, good enough for a 13th place finish.  The finish cut over a minute off of the senior’s time from the 2011 MVC Championships.
