Where Are They Now? Missy (Buttry) Rock

Missy and Andrew Rock

I was announcing at the Roy Griak Invitational recently when a still young looking, fit blonde with a toddler on each hip, walked past my announcers stand.  She looked very familiar, so I shouted out. “Missy”!

She turned around, and I was right, it was Missy Buttry, the former Shenandoah state champion and 14 time D-3 national champion at Wartburg.

Buttry was a star in high school and college who tried the “pro circuit” for awhile before giving up competitive running to get married and start a family.

Missy is married to Andrew Rock a 3 time D-3 champion and 17 time All American at UW LaCrosse.

Rock had a great professional career as one of the USA’s top 400 meter runners.  He was a gold medalist on the USA 4×4 in the 2004 Olympics; won the silver in the 400 at the 2005 World Championships and was the 2006 USA 400 meter champion.  He won one Special Invite 400 title and was on 2 winning 4×400 teams at the Drake Relays.

He is now the head Men’s and Women’s Track and Field coach at D-3 Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Missy came from a large family with 14 siblings!  Some biological, some adopted.  She and Andrew have now started their own family.  They have 2 children with a third on the way.  Isaiah is biological; Athulya was adopted from India and they will be receiving their third child from The Congo very soon.

Missy has taken up running again, but is undecided as to what level she will take it this time around.  She is training for Grandma’s Marathon to be run on June 22, 2013 in Duluth, Minnesota

It was great to see familiar faces.  Both Missy and Andrew look fit enough to still hold their own on the track!  They are very strong in their faith and are doing their part to make the world a better place for children in need.
