Drake Men and Women Impress at Griak

Senior Kirsten Lake (Parker, Colo.) led the charge for the Drake women’s cross country team at the Roy Griak Invitationa in Falcon Heights, Minn. Saturday (Sept. 29) finishing the 6 Kilometer course in 22:13.

Lake was followed by a trio of young Bulldogs. Freshman Cassie Aerts (David City, Neb.) finished 94th in 23:55. She was followed by Taylor Scholl(Prior Lake, Minn.), in 95th and Celeste Arteaga (Rock Island, Ill.) in 103. Scholl and Arteaga finished in times of 23:59 and 24:23 resepectively.

Instate rival Iowa State won the meet with at total of 47 points. They were followed by Weber State with 82 and host Minnesota with 86. Drake finished in 16th place with 429 points.

The Bulldogs will next see action Oct. 12 at the Bradley Cross Country Classic in Peoria, Ill.

Junior Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa) and senior Charlie Lapham (Golden Valley, Minn.) lead the Drake men’s cross country team at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday (Sept. 29.)

The meet, held in Falcon Heights, Minn. was won by Kelly Weibe of Regina, with the hosts Minnesota taking the overall title with 67 points.

The Bulldogs placed in 14th with a score of 349 and had all seven participants finish in the top-100 of competitors.

Austin was the top Drake runner, finishing the course in 25:53 42nd overall. Lapham finished in 26:22, in 67th place.
