Matt Clark-Ames-UNI Chasing His Olympic Dream!

Mat Clark was an outstanding high school athlete at Ames High, then went on to UNI where he became a Missouri Valley Conference Champion and a 3 time All American in the Combined Events.  The 2 time Drake Relays champion still chases his Olympic dream and will compete on Team USA, in the Decathlon, this weekend in Germany.

The Thorpe Cup (USA vs Germany) is taking place this weekend(Saturday-Sunday) in Marburg, Germany. While the decathlon will draw most of the attention, there will also be a heptathlon for women.  The Thorpe Cup will have (Olympians)Ashton Eaton and Trey Hardee doing individual events. Eaton (100m,SP, HJ, Disc, PV, Jav), Hardee (LJ, SP, HJ. Twenty living Olympic medalists are here for tonight’s celebration (Campbell, Holdorf, Walde, Toomey, Bendlin, Avilov, Litvenyenko, Katus, Jenner, Kratschmer, Hingsen, Wentz, Schenk, Voss, D Johnson, Busemann, Nool, Huffins, Clay and Suarez).  After the great decathlon 100th Anniversary celebration at the U.S. Trials, along with Ashton Eaton’s World Record, this weekend’s Thorpe Cup, and the upcoming Olympic competition in London, this is a dream year for those associated with the event!
